Kirsten is beating cancer!
Description
Hi Friends!
I love running and living healthily is important to me so it was a total shocker when I was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) in May 2010. So instead of spending last summer training for Berlin Marathon I spent 4 months having chemotherapy and thereafter radiotherapy. Stubborn as I am, I kept on training throughout my treatment but despite that my form has suffered horribly! Before my illness I typically logged 120-180 km per month at around 5 min/km and by the end of my treatment I was struggling through 50 km per month more than 1 min/km slower!
I finished my treatment in December and am now in full remission and back in proper training with a view to running Berlin Marathon this September. My main goal is to prove to myself that I can still run a marathon, but it seems like a good opportunity also to give something back to the Danish Cancer Society, Kræftens Bekæmpelse, and hopefully at the same time raise awareness that, not only is it possible to keep training through and after cancer treatment, but that, in my experience, it pays off immensely in terms of physical and mental well-being.
You can follow my progress towards Berlin and more generally on my blog http://kirstenejlskov.wordpress.com/.
It would be great to have you cheering me on towards my goal and you can do that by donating whatever you can afford here on this site. 100 Danish kroner is roughly 13.5 Euros, 20 US Dollars or GBP 12 and you can pay with Visa or Mastercard. Just click the button "Giv Bidrag" to make a donation.
Thanks a million! Kirsten
